ParSymG: a parallel clustering approach for unsupervised classification of remotely sensed imagery

چکیده
Symmetry is a common feature in the real world. It may be used to improve a classification by using the point symmetry-based distance as a measure of clustering. However, it is time consuming to calculate the point symmetry-based distance. Although an efficient parallel point symmetry-based K-means algorithm (ParSym) has been propsed to overcome this limitation, ParSym may get stuck in sub-optimal solutions due to the K-means technique it used. In this study, we proposed a novel parallel point symmetry-based genetic clustering (ParSymG) algorithm for unsupervised classification. The genetic algorithm was introduced to overcome the sub-optimization problem caused by inappropriate selection of initial centroids in ParSym. A message passing interface (MPI) was used to implement the distributed master–slave paradigm. To make the algorithm more time-efficient, a three-phase speedup strategy was adopted for population initialization, image partition, and kd-tree structure-based nearest neighbor searching. The advantages of ParSymG over existing ParSym and parallel K-means (PKM) alogithms were demonstrated through case studies using three different types of remotely sensed images. Results in speedup and time gain proved the excellent scalability of the ParSymG algorithm. ARTICLE HISTORY Received 27 April 2016 Accepted 24 August 2016

A Comparative Study of SVM and RF Methods for Classification of Alteration Zones Using Remotely Sensed Data
Identification and mapping of the significant alterations are the main objectives of the exploration geochemical surveys. The field study is time-consuming and costly to produce the classified maps. Therefore, the processing of remotely sensed data, which provide timely and multi-band (multi-layer) data, can be substituted for the field study. In this study, the ASTER imagery is used for altera...
متن کاملUsing Neural Networks for Clustering on RSI Data and Related Spatial Data
Clustering is unsupervised classification of patterns into groups. Neural networks are very useful tools for performing clustering. In this paper, we propose a new model for using artificial neural networks to perform clustering tasks on remotely sensed imagery. This model generates self-organizing maps (SOM) based on remotely sensed imagery and such related data as yield, nitrate, and moisture...

The quality of remotely sensed land use and land cover (LULC) maps is affected by the accuracy of image data classifications. Various efforts have been made in advancing supervised or unsupervised classification methods to increase the repeatability and accuracy of LULC mapping. This study incorporates a data-assisted labeling approach (DALA) into the unsupervised classification of remotely sen...
متن کاملA new parallel tool for classification of remotely sensed imagery
In this paper, we describe a new tool for classification of remotely sensed images. Our processing chain is based on three main parts: (1) pre-processing, performed using morphological profiles which model both the spatial (high resolution) and the spectral (color) information available from the scenes; (2) classification, which can be performed in unsupervised fashion using two well-known clus...
متن کاملUnsupervised classification strategy utilizing an endmember extraction technique for airborne hyperspectral remotely sensed imagery
Remote sensing has become an important source of urban land-use/cover classification, and as a result of their high spatial and spectral resolution, airborne hyperspectral images have been widely used to distinguish different urban classes. However, the previous studies into the classification of urban environments have mainly focused on a supervised scenario, which is limited by the selection ...
